MUSEOLOGY AND MUSEOGRAPHY

Preliminary project

Church of Sant Antoni de Portmany

Sant Antoni de Portmany, Ibiza.

Execution dates 2025

A proposal for the historical, symbolic, and functional interpretation of a unique temple-fortress.

The project was conceived as a preliminary project to highlight the dual nature of the Church of Sant Antoni de Portmany—as a place of worship and as a fortified building—while also explaining its historical, architectural, and social legacy. The proposed exhibition route provides an understanding of the different functions the church has had over time: refuge from pirate attacks, spiritual center, space for community relations, and symbol of collective identity.

The preliminary intervention proposal incorporates graphic, audiovisual, and scenographic resources, improving the presentation of the museum’s historical objects, and opening up to the public spaces that are usually restricted, such as the roof, which offers a panoramic view of the surrounding area. The design of the visit ensures compatibility with the building’s liturgical use.
